ALL TRINITY READS: Here are some photos of our students enjoying Save Me a Seat. We hope your family is enjoying this book at home, too. Chef Ashley prepared vegetable curry to sample at lunch today and will have additional Indian dishes to sample, further helping us bring this book to life.
Spanish
Fourth graders have been working on using some subject pronouns such as: yo (I), tú (you-informal), él (he), ella (she), nosotros (we), ellos (they), along the verb to be "estar", and to go and to go "ir". Students are practicing sentences conjugating these verbs in simple present tense to say things like: I go to the park - Yo voy al parque, we go to the supermarket - nosotros vamos al súper mercado. They are also practicing names of community workers with the correct article "the" (el, la, los, las): el/la policía (the police officer), el maestro/la maestra (the male teacher/the female teacher), etc..., and places where they work: la estación de policía (police station), la escuela (the school).
Children also do quick reviews about topics we have seen in unit 1 and 2. Our last practice included clothing, colors, and the verb to be "ser" and "estar", and to buy "comprar".
It is important to help your child to log in his/her online account to complete the assignments through the week of March 13th.
Wellness
In Wellness, we continued with our discussions around conflict management. We reviewed the do’s and don’ts on solving conflict and engaged in conversation about why it is so important to solve conflicts in a healthy way. The 4th graders then created skits in which they role played how to solve various conflicts in a positive and healthy way. The 4th graders were very creative with their skits and loved performing them for the rest of their classes!
Faith Studies
We are continuing our New Testament studies in fourth grade Faith Studies this year. We looked at the “Lost Parables” and the “Good Samaritan” story and created parables of our own in the form of skits to share with the class. We have now moved into the gospel of John and have learned that this gospel has many stories that are unique to John. We have looked at the way the John begins his gospel and compared it to the other gospels. We have also read the stories of the Wedding at Cana and Nicodemus and Jesus. We will continue to study the gospel of John through the season of Lent.
It is truly a joy to teach your children each week. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Grace and peace to you,
Lindsey
Technology
We continued our coding journey in February. Students wrote programs in JavaScript, and most are now able to write the code for drawing shapes, color, and variables. Some have started with animation, and this is where the fun begins!
Coding with JavaScript has been engaging, but it pales in comparison to our last coding experience. Students had an opportunity to program Dash and Dot, our robots. Dash and Dot are simple robots that can be programmed with drag-and-drop block programs on iPads. Students wrote the programs in pairs and tested them on one of the robots. I loved seeing the excitement and enthusiasm in their faces and look forward to more robotics sessions with them.
