Meet Ollie the Bearded Dragon - our new class pet. We are unsure if Ollie is a male or female Beardie, but our class is in the habit of referring to him with male pronouns. Bearded Dragons are typically curious and gentle, which makes them great pets. Ollie is just a baby, so he is can be timid and unsure of people. We are handling him daily so he gets comfortable with humans (we always wash our hands after holding him). Beardies can grow to be 12-24 inches long. Ollie is currently measuring only 6.5 inches from nose to tail. He eats live insects, fruits, and veggies. Bearded Dragons hail from the deserts of Australia and were introduced as pets in the U.S. in the 1990's. You can learn more about Bearded Dragons here. Ollie is still two young to go home with students, but if you would like to help out our scaly buddy now, donations to Mrs. Dugan's faculty enrichment fund or gift cards to Petsmart are always welcome. When Ollie is ready to visit student homes a sign up will be shared. Check out all the cute, scaly photos and videos of Ollie that we have taken in the last two weeks.
